The Remembering Richard J. Daley exhibit draws on the memories and reflections of colleagues, friends, and relatives of Mayor Richard J. Daley to examine his years in office as mayor of Chicago (1955-1976) and chairman of the Cook County Democratic Party (1953-1976). The exhibit is divided into 5 themes that each reflects a different aspect of the life of the city and the mayor. Each theme has several topics that tell their story through text, audio, and video clips of people who knew the mayor. Each topic is also illustrated by film clips, photographs, and images of documents and artifacts. The material was chosen from the extensive political collections in Special Collections and University Archives at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Among these collections are the papers of Mayor Richard J. Daley and the Remembering Richard J. Daley Oral History Project.

You can begin your exploration at each of the themes above or you can read the table of contents for the exhibit. The biographies page recounts the life of the mayor and provides information on each of the oral history interviews.
